1. Who We Are

PDFJolt ("we," "us," or "our") is operated by Israel Bain, located in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. PDFJolt provides free and premium online file processing tools at pdfjolt.ca.

2. File Processing & Privacy

Your files never leave your device. All file processing — PDF conversion, compression, merging, splitting, image editing, and developer utilities — happens 100% client-side in your browser using WebAssembly (WASM) technology.

  • Files are never uploaded to our servers
  • File data is never stored, transmitted, or logged
  • We have zero access to your file contents
  • Processing occurs entirely in your browser's memory and is discarded when you close the tab

This is not a marketing claim — it is a technical reality of our architecture. There are no server-side file processing endpoints.

3. Information We Collect

a) Account Information

If you create an account via Google OAuth or GitHub OAuth, we store your email address, display name, and profile image URL. This information is used solely for authentication and account management.

b) Payment Information

Payment processing is handled entirely by Stripe. We never see, store, or have access to your full credit card numbers. We receive only a Stripe customer ID, subscription status, and the last four digits of your card for display purposes.

c) Usage Data

We track anonymous usage counts (e.g., "2 of 2 free operations used today") to enforce free-tier limits. For anonymous users, this is tied to a browser fingerprint. For logged-in users, it is tied to your account.

d) Analytics

We use PostHog for product analytics. This collects anonymized page views, feature usage, and performance metrics. No file data is ever included in analytics events.

4. Cookies

We use cookies for the following purposes:

  • Authentication: Session cookies to keep you logged in (NextAuth.js)
  • Analytics: PostHog cookies for anonymous usage analytics
  • Advertising: Google AdSense may use cookies to serve personalized ads based on your browsing history. You can opt out of personalized advertising at Google Ads Settings

No cookies are used to track or access your processed files.

Account data is retained for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, all associated data (email, name, usage records) is permanently deleted within 30 days. Anonymous usage data (browser fingerprints) expires automatically after 24 hours.

7. Your Rights

You have the right to:

  • Access the personal data we hold about you
  • Request correction of inaccurate data
  • Request deletion of your account and data
  • Export your account data
  • Opt out of analytics tracking

8. Children's Privacy

PDFJolt is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us and we will delete it.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated effective date. Continued use of PDFJolt after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
